Spotlight On: British Airways
British Airways is a full service global airline, offering an extensive global route network flying to and from centrally-located airports.
Over the next five years the airline will take delivery of 72 new aircraft and has already taken delivery of 57 new, fuel efficient and quieter aircraft, including A380s and Boeing 787 Dreamliners. By 2020 British Airways will have received 100 new aircraft in less than a decade.
The airline is also fitting out 128 of their long-haul aircraft with new interiors.
British Airways is currently operating its largest route network in a decade, with 17 per cent more flights than 2016 and around 40 more routes, plus new low fares for customers who wish to travel without checked-in luggage, and European flights priced from £23 each way.
Newly announced routes include: Osaka (March 19), Pittsburgh (April 19) and Charleston (April 19).
British Airways has the largest number of lounges of any European airline. It is refurbishing a large number of its lounges, including Rome, Aberdeen, Geneva, Johannesburg, San Francisco, Chicago and JFK, with a new contemporary and luxurious design concept. The lounges offer customers complimentary WiFi and plenty of USB and power points, enabling customers to work, surf online and charge personal devices.
Dozens of British Airways long-haul aircraft are now fitted with full streaming capability, high-speed WiFi. The airline will connect 118 of its long-haul aircraft over the next two years. WiFi allows travellers to browse and stream from the comfort of their seat. Using the latest generation technology, British Airways customers are able to use the internet approximately 10 minutes after take-off when the aircraft has passed 10,000ft.
The airline is also trialling biometric technology to speed up boarding and arrivals processes in London, Orlando, Los Angeles, Miami and New York, meaning some flights can be boarded in as little as seven minutes. BA is the first and only airline to use this particular technology to board international flights out of the US.
