Are You Sitting Comfortably? The World’s Best Airline Cabins

A new trend in luxury air travel is transforming the first-class air travel experience – so your flight is becoming not just part of your trip but a destination in itself.

We take a look at some of the most luxurious ways to take to the skies from the finalists of the World Airline Awards. Who needs their own private leer jet when you can fly in these first-class cabins?

Etihad Airlines: The Residence

When Etihad Airlines launched the Residence in 2016, it redefined the luxury first-class air travel experience.

The Residence is a three-room suite in the sky. With a living room, separate bedroom and en-suite shower room, it is designed to accommodate two people travelling together. Found on the airline’s A380 flights, it is the only three-room suite available on a commercial airline. With a full concierge service, including chauffeur transfers, private check-in, private lounge and in-flight butler service, guests are waited on hand and foot from door to door.

The living space features a leather double-seat sofa, two dining tables and a 32-inch flat-screen TV. In the bedroom, guests are treated to a huge 6’10” double bed with designer Italian bed linen and a 27-inch flat-screen TV. Meanwhile the bathroom has a full-height shower, luxury amenities and bathrobes.

It’s air travel, but not as we know it…

Singapore Airlines: First-Class Cabins

This year, Singapore Airlines scooped the top spot for the best First-Class Airline 2018 and best First-Class Seats 2018 in the prestigious World Airline Awards, pushing Etihad back into second place.

The Singapore Airlines suites comprise an individual cabin with its own sliding door and window blinds to give you all the privacy you want. The standalone bed is completely separate from your seat and, if you’re travelling with your partner, book adjacent suites and they can be converted into a double room.

The cabins have been designed by French luxury yacht designer Jean-Jacques Coste and are finished in neutral tones of leather and wood. As well as the restaurant dining, turn-down service and entertainment system featuring a 23-inch personal LCD with Bose noise-cancelling headphones, travellers are treated to Internet connectivity and attentive service.

Emirates: First-Class Cabins

Well-known for its attentive service, Emirates First-Class air travel experience was also highly ranked in the 2018’s World Airline Awards.

As with the Singapore Airlines offering, first-class passengers enjoy their own private cabin, with sliding privacy doors closeting you off from other passengers. The entertainment system is impressive: as well as free Internet access, the in-flight entertainment includes live sports options.

The seat in these first-class cabins converts into a fully-flat bed and guests can make use of the Shower Spa available for first and business-class passengers in the airline’s A380 services. Restaurant service on demand, in-suite mini-bar and a complimentary collection of Bulgari toiletries ensure you’re treated to a few luxuries along the way – or, on the A380, head to the Onboard Lounge for bar service and light nibbles.
