My name is Lize Roodt – a Business Travel Counsellor. My first overseas trip was at the tender age of 5 when my family lived in the UK for 2 years. I believe that it was my parents’ pure opportunistic attitude towards their new surroundings that sparked my love for travel.
After school I worked and travelled in the UK and Europe and then came home to study BCom Tourism Management at the University of Pretoria majoring in tourism, business and marketing management. I went on to complete my Honours degree. I have since worked in the travel industry from travel media to tour operators but soon realised in the heart of it all lies the travel consultant. I then joined a travel consortium and started consulting in retail and soon moved to the corporate travel.
After a while I craved more than just being a booking machine and wanted to run my own travel business. Travel Counsellors offered me just that, with cutting edge intranet booking system, contact centre and ground breaking dynamic packaging system, Phenix. Travel reports are easily available and we have a level 2 BEE accreditation. Over 1,350 colleagues worldwide that I can call on to recommend the best hotels or even resolve local issues. What more could a corporate travel manager ask for?
I have worked with different types of companies and SMME’s in the mining/engineering industry, training/educational, automotive (AIDC) and aerospace. I have learnt that different types of business calls for different travel needs, each business should be approached individually and offered tailor made solutions. Everything should be taken care of from everyday travel bookings to seating preferences, frequent flyer programmes, airport lounges and not to mention the after hour service.
As a corporate traveller you need someone reliable and available when unplanned things happen outside of business hours which is why I am available 24/7 for after hour emergencies! Although I am based in Westrand, Johannesburg I have clients near and far. I am an extension of your business, the travel department.
Waiting for a operation consultant who was detained in Saudi Arabia not knowing when he would be released but not going home until he was safely booked on a flight home. It's all part of my job.

My wife, Candace and I have been using the travel services of Lize Roodt for many years. Over the years we have booked numerous overseas holidays and business trips through Lize, which have usually included flights, accommodation and local tours. Destinations have included various countries and cities in Europe and the Far East.
Lize has always performed professionally and when we have sought advice has been readily forthcoming with what have always turned out to be great recommendations in terms of value for money.
Lize has always gone the extra mile and has always ensured that we have seat reservations before we arrive for each flight – no matter where in the world we happen to be. She has even on a few occasions met with us at OR Tambo to personally hand us documents and make sure that all of our travel plans are in hand.
We were recently on a trip to Europe when the Coronavirus pandemic started to take hold. We found ourselves in Vienna and desperate to get back home with the airline proving to be very difficult about rescheduling flights and wanting to charge exorbitant cancellation and rebooking fees. Despite the obvious chaos, one call to Lize sorted our issue. Lize managed after much effort and negotiation with the airline, to get us back on an earlier flight to South Africa – indeed one leaving that same night – at no extra charge.
We would have no hesitation in highly recommending Lize for all your business and holiday travel arrangements and we ourselves have every intention of using Lize for all our travel requirements for many years to come.
