Having been in travel for over 40 years, I have spent most of my travel career doing corporate travel. I started my travel journey in Port Elizabeth after having moved down there from Mafikeng, where I worked as an assistant to a Chartered Accountant.
In my early days of travel, I was assigned to helping other staff members do vouchers and typing itineraries in triplicate! Things have progressed since then! I started at the bottom and worked my way up. I had a fantastic boss who taught me everything until I left Port Elizabeth. After 8 years in Port Elizabeth, I moved up to Johannesburg and worked in several agencies until I started the in-house travel office at SAB Indol in Rivonia and from there moved to their office’s in Braamfontein.
I was based at SABMiller in Braamfontein for 16 years servicing the VIP clientele of this prestigious company. SABMiller had several VIP travellers based in South Africa and all over Africa, Europe and the Far East. I am proud to say that I gave all of them my full attention. I pride myself on the service that I have provided them. This included getting visas at short notice so that they could attend their meetings. I loved working for them and I felt like part of the family!
I really enjoy doing corporate travel. The thought of having been part of my client’s achievements makes all the changes, cancellations, etc worthwhile.
