Meet our BDMs: Ross Byatt on building smarter, more human corporate travel

At Travel Counsellors for Business, it’s the people behind the scenes who truly power our success – supporting our clients, building tailored solutions and forging strong partnerships that go beyond the transactional. In our latest ‘Meet the BDMs’ blog, we sat down with Ross Byatt, one of our accomplished Business Development Managers, to discover the expertise, values, and approach he brings to the world of corporate travel.

Ross’s background is an inspiring blend of business development, relationship management, and a deep-rooted love for both travel and technology. Before joining Travel Counsellors for Business, he developed his expertise across organisations where tailoring solutions to client needs was always front and centre. “That blend of commercial experience and love of travel allows me to help businesses create smarter, more effective travel programmes,” Ross shares. His unique perspective enables him to approach each client conversation with a consultative, commercial lens – always with a focus on outcomes.

A day in the life: listening, collaborating, and adding value

“No two days are ever the same,” Ross says. Whether he’s speaking with prospective or existing clients, understanding their latest travel challenges, or partnering with Travel Counsellors to design impactful solutions, the variety is a constant. He also dedicates time to collaborating with colleagues across the business – sharing insights, refining our proposition, and keeping up with crucial industry trends.

What businesses really want from a TMC

Through countless conversations, Ross has a finger on the pulse of corporate travel needs. Most businesses, he explains, want reliability, visibility, and a truly personal service. “They’re looking for a partner who understands their organisation and offers clear reporting, cost control and vital traveller support when it really matters.” And the focus is shifting – sustainability and duty of care are higher on the agenda than ever before.

Making an impact

For Ross, the most rewarding client success stories involve transforming the way growing SMEs approach travel. “Helping a client move from fragmented travel booking to a structured, managed programme – seeing them gain control, enjoy improved reporting and experience true peace of mind – really highlights the value of what we do. It’s not just about saving money. It’s about empowering clients to focus on what matters most.”

Ross's advice for businesses considering a new TMC

“Be clear on what success looks like for your business and don’t focus on price alone. Look for a TMC that offers transparency, proactive support, and technology that makes managing travel easier – but without losing the human touch.” This approach ensures long-term value and a truly collaborative partnership.

What sets Travel Counsellors for Business apart

For Ross, the answer is twofold: “Our combination of personal, care-led service and powerful technology really sets us apart. Clients work directly with dedicated Travel Counsellors who understand their business needs, supported by tools that deliver insight, control and flexibility. It’s a genuinely human approach to corporate travel.”

Looking ahead - the future of corporate travel

As for the future, Ross shares his take on how the needs of corporate clients are evolving. “Clients are becoming more data-driven, sustainability-focused and traveller-centric. We’re continuously evolving our technology, investing in training and making sure our Travel Counsellors are equipped to adapt and excel as expectations keep growing.”
