Meet our BDMs: Daniel Olowu on putting people at the heart of corporate travel

After beginning his career in business development at a payment technology company, Daniel Olowu decided to follow his curiosity for travel. He joined a travel ancillary services provider as a Business Development Executive in their insurance team, working B2B to grow travel insurance revenue. It was there that he first experienced the energy and variety of the travel sector, which ultimately led him to Travel Counsellors for Business.

“My previous role opened my eyes to the joys of the travel industry,” he explains. “I saw how much difference the right support can make to both travellers and businesses, and I knew I wanted to be part of that on a bigger scale.”

A typical day - putting Travel Counsellors for Business on the map

As a Corporate Business Development Manager, Daniel’s focus is simple: introduce more organisations to the care-led service that Travel Counsellors for Business offers.

“A typical day is about getting eyes on Travel Counsellors and showcasing the great work our travel experts provide,” he says. “That might be through calls, emails or LinkedIn, but the goal is always the same: to start conversations with businesses who are ready for a more consistent, human approach to travel management.”

Daniel spends much of his time listening: understanding how companies currently manage travel, what is working, and where the pressure points really are.

What clients really want from a TMC

The themes Daniel hears from prospective clients are remarkably consistent.

“Most businesses tell me they want one thing above all else: consistency. They don’t want a TMC that is brilliant one day and then nowhere to be found the next,” he says. “Transparency and strong industry knowledge also come up time and again. They want clear communication, honest advice, and someone who genuinely understands the realities of business travel.”

That need for reliability and openness is where Daniel feels Travel Counsellors stands out. With a dedicated Travel Counsellor acting as an extension of each client’s team, there is always a familiar, informed contact ready to help.

A memorable success story: group travel made simple

“Group trips can be complex, especially when there are multiple options and stakeholders involved,” he says. “Working alongside the Travel Counsellor, we focused on presenting a clear range of tailored choices, making sure the client had all the information they needed to make an informed decision.”

Supporting businesses with sustainability

More organisations are now factoring sustainability into their travel strategy, but not every business knows where to start.

“If a business raises sustainability and a Travel Counsellor is unsure of the best way to approach it, we have a dedicated sustainability champion who can join a call,” Daniel explains. “They can walk through how we can support, whether that’s reporting, guidance on more responsible travel choices, or shaping a broader strategy over time.”

This collaborative approach means clients are never left to navigate complex topics alone, and Travel Counsellors have specialist support behind them.

Daniel's advice on choosing a TMC

For businesses considering a change of TMC, Daniel’s advice is to look beyond the headline price.

“Choose a partner who genuinely understands your organisation and your people,” he says. “Ask yourself: how well do they listen, and how will they make life easier for us overall? The right TMC should feel like an extension of your team, not just a supplier.”

For companies using a TMC for the first time, he recommends taking the time to be clear on objectives.

“Don’t rush into working with the first TMC that approaches you. Take a step back and understand why you want to work with a TMC in the first place. Once you’re clear on that, it becomes much easier to see where the real value lies.”
