Meet Athenee Graham, our Senior Business Development Manager

Tell us a bit about your career to date

I have over 15 years of experience in the travel industry. I spent six years at Hotelzon and then another six years at Corporate Travel Management. Seeking a change, I then transitioned to CIBT/Newland Chase, where I focused on visa and immigration solutions for three years. I’ve always worked in business development roles.

What brought you to Travel Counsellors for Business?

I've always heard positive things about Travel Counsellors. When I learned about the available position, I knew I had to apply. I was also excited about the opportunity to work with Wayne Durkin and Mel Quinn. My previous manager had nothing but great things to say about Wayne, which made the position even more appealing.

What does a typical day look like in your role?

Every day will bring new experiences for me. Initially, as I embed into my role, I’ll be cultivating relationships with the Corporate Team and the broader Travel Counsellors community.

Once I’m fully settled in, I’m excited to engage with potential customers, which will involve prospecting, making sales calls, meeting with clients, winning new business, and handling all necessary administrative tasks.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

First and foremost, I’m a proud mum to my 12-year-old son, Nico. Outside of work, I love going to the gym, which is where you’ll find me at 6am to start my day. I competed in a bodybuilding show in 2023 after losing seven stones, as I wanted a new challenge. Now, I compete in Hyrox (a fitness race that combines running and functional fitness workouts). I’m also a trained Amateur England boxing coach, so health and fitness are very important to me.

What challenges do you think businesses are facing when it comes to their travel management programmes?

Businesses today face several challenges with their travel management programmes, including:

  • Duty of care - Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of employees, especially in regions with health, safety, or political risks.
  • Sustainability and environmental impact – To reduce carbon emissions and adopt responsible travel practices.
  • Booking and policy compliance - Preventing employees from booking outside the company’s preferred channels (also known as travel policy leakage).
  • Technology and reporting – Making sure that the relevant technology works for their business and using data effectively to optimise travel decisions.

What do you think sets Travel Counsellors for Business apart from other TMCs?

Our Travel Counsellors take the time to build strong relationships and truly understand each client’s unique needs. Caring for our customers is at the heart of what we do — because for us, it’s about more than just the bottom line.

What advice would you give to businesses who are looking for a corporate travel provider?

When selecting a corporate travel provider, businesses should adopt a strategic and thoughtful approach to ensure the partner aligns with their goals and priorities. Price shouldn’t always be the driving factor — it's essential to consider the overall value and benefits the travel management company (TMC) can offer.
