Say hello to Ashley, one of our Business Development Managers who joined us during the pandemic and has never looked back.

Meet Ashley Averill, our Business Development Manager

Tell us a bit about your career to date – what were you doing before you joined Travel Counsellors for Business?

I studied travel and tourism at college, which sparked my passion for the industry. After completing my studies, I took the leap and moved to Benidorm, where I spent three unforgettable years. During that time, I worked in various hotels, managed a beach bar, and even had some fun as an extra on "Benidorm," the TV series. Upon returning to the UK, I transitioned into the corporate world, working for an investment company for seven years. My role was diverse, including everything from administrative tasks to sales, eventually leading to a position as a sales team leader.

What brought you to Travel Counsellors for Business?

The pandemic was a turning point for me. I found myself working from home and feeling quite isolated. As restrictions began to ease, I applied for a temporary position with the ‘crisis team’ at Travel Counsellors for a three-month contract, believing my travel background would fit well. After a few weeks of adjusting to my new role, I was offered a permanent position. The company’s values and the incredible people I met along the way made my decision an easy one.

What does a typical day look like for you in your role?

No two days are alike in my role. My day may start with calling potential clients, followed by putting together a tender or conducting a discovery call. I also attend networking events, which are great opportunities to connect with potential clients and industry professionals.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I really love about my job is my team. I also really enjoy meeting new people, whether it’s at networking events, exhibitions, or when I visit businesses. It makes what we do feel special!

What do you enjoy doing away from work?

Outside of work, I have a passion for travel and take every opportunity to explore new places. When I'm not travelling, I enjoy taking long walks with my dogs, hitting the gym, or searching for the perfect country walk that ends with a delicious roast dinner.

What challenges do you think businesses are facing when it comes to their travel management programmes?

Businesses today face several challenges with their travel management programmes, including adapting to rapidly changing regulations, managing costs, and ensuring they have robust safety and wellbeing measures in place for their travellers. Additionally, the need for flexibility and rapid response to unforeseen issues has become increasingly crucial.

What do you think sets Travel Counsellors for Business apart from other TMCs?

Travel Counsellors for Business stands out by integrating personalised service with cutting-edge technology, extensive global reach, adaptability, and a strong emphasis on client relationships - resulting in an exceptional travel management experience.

What advice would you give to businesses who are looking for a corporate travel provider?

I would advise businesses to prioritise a provider that offers 24/7 support. While technology plays an important role in travel management, it’s not infallible. When unexpected situations arise, having a knowledgeable person available to assist can make all the difference. Knowing that you and your team can reach out to someone, rather than relying solely on automation, provides invaluable peace of mind for both your travellers and your organisation.
